Summer Meeting at Thames River Melons with Beekeeper Nathan TeBokkel

The weather partially cooperated but for the main part it did not hamper the enthusiasm of the people attending. There were 50 people recorded as attended and 18 from the Ausable Beekeepers Club. It was great to be able to host some people from the Ausable group – they were hungry for info and lots of questions – fantastic!

A big thank you to Nathan, Alex and Grace from Thames River Melons for being such great hosts and making things run smoothly! All the club volunteers who ran the demos – thank you for your hard work and great information you provided. Have a great summer and beekeeping season. See you all in the fall.

Location: Thames River Melons Pick you own, 775530 Blandford Rd., Innerkip

Demos were on:
– Wax uses in hives
– Hands on hive inspections
– Brood diseases identification
– Mite programs and Oxalic vaporization
– Hive and nucleus components and honey supering

Thames River Melons rely on their honeybees to pollinate nearly everything they grow, from strawberries in the summer to pumpkins in the fall. Beekeeping is an important part of the farm.
